You know it is going to be a struggle of a day when you wake up tired. That is what happened with my dad this morning. He got up tired and had no energy at all. He checked his vital signs and everything looked good – thank God! But he just had no enthusiasm to do anything. He went outside and got some fresh air, but that did not really help. He napped for a while and that did not really help either. As he would describe it – his get up and go just got up and went. We were to have dinner with my sister in the rehab facility, but my dad said he was just too tired to go. I told my sister this and we talked about how it might make him feel better to actually get out and do something. She basically said not to come without him. I told him we did not have to stay long – just sit with my sister for dinner. He finally agreed to go. We stopped at Olive Garden and picked up dinner, then stopped at the drug store for ice cream. My sister was in great spirits and was so happy that we all came. We had quite a feast. During dinner, I spotted a “Sorry” game on the bookshelf. That is one of the games that we like at home, so we decided to play. Part way into it the announcement came that visiting hours were coming to a close. We didn’t even realize the time that had passed. We said our good-byes and headed to the car. On the way back my dad said that he really enjoyed the visit and was very happy that we had talked him into going. I think it is a blessing that spending time with loved ones can lift your spirits – both for my dad and my sister.
I Found God today in the positive effect of spending time with loved ones.
