Some of my family live in another part of the country from me. Their weather always seems to be the opposite of what is going on where I live. My parents and I were talking about it today. My dad was a meteorologist in the Air Force for many years and described how there are jet streams that go all the way around our Earth. He described how they move the air and the storms. I learned that there is a typical way in which weather behaves according to where the jet stream is and where and how fast it is moving. So, when we are in one end of the current, many of my friends and family are in the other. This often makes for opposite weather. After his explanation, my mother said that it reminded her of what she read today. She has been following along the daily Catholic Mass readings, and today’s scripture was part of the first chapter in Genesis. It described how God created our world. She found my dad’s description of the weather patterns very interesting as she thought about the earth being made in a certain sequence. Later, I read the scripture that she was referring to and pictured these jet streams going around the earth. As I pondered this, I realized that my mom is correct – there is order to the earth and all that live in it. Even though sometimes we feel the world is in chaos and dysfunction, there is an organized structure in place and we are all a part of it. We truly have a choice to either respect that and try to live in harmony, or fight against it and try to do force things to go the way we want.
I Found God today in a reminder of His great Creation and order of life.
