We Are Answered Prayers

Today at church, the priest talked about how God answers prayers. He told a great story:

There was a time in Scotland when Catholics were being persecuted for their faith. During that time, a Catholic cardinal was traveling from town to town to preach the Gospel, visit people, and celebrate Mass. He was dressed as a poor farmer to not draw attention to himself. One day a snowstorm came upon him and he got lost. He found himself wandering aimlessly when he saw a light in the distance. He followed the light to a house. The family there greeted him warmly and fed him. He noticed that there were no crosses or religious articles around, so assumed that they were not Catholic. He also noticed that the family members seemed sad. When he asked about their state, he was told that the grandfather was dying, but would not come to terms with the fact. The disguised priest asked if he could talk with him. Upon entering the room, he found an old dying man just as he was told. The old man told him that he was not dying just yet. When asked why, he responded that he was Catholic and had been praying to the Virgin Mary for a long time. He prayed for a Catholic priest to visit him so he could say his last confession and receive an anointing. He knew that Mary would not let him down and that he would not die until this happened. The priest revealed who he was and was overcome with the knowledge that he was the answer to this man’s prayer.

I Found God today in a reminder that each of us can be the answer to someone’s prayer.

    • Thank you. During the same homily, the priest reminded us that God always hears our prayers and answers them. Sometimes the answer is “yes”, sometimes it is “no”, and sometimes it is “not right now”. At the same time, people need to cooperate. He will not force us to do what is right. We have free will. Keep on praying! Have a blessed day!
