A friend of mine knows a gentleman who worked on the engine for the Apollo 11 through 17 moon landing missions. He often comes into the shop where she works and she always looks forward to seeing him as they have great conversations. He has interesting stories to tell and he listens as well as talks. He is also a devout Catholic. She asked him once about how science and faith seem to oppose each other. He replied that they do not, and if you ask the astronauts who have been in space, they will tell you definitely that there is a God. Today, the gentleman came into the shop. He told my friend of how he had been able to see and touch some relics of St. Padre Pio. He said he could feel warmth coming from the shawl that the saint wore. Then he gave my friend a booklet and relic of a woman named Luisa Piccarreta. Padre Pio knew of her and said that should would be a great saint some day. I had not heard of her, so read more about her online. You can find a short biography here. Briefly, this woman gave her life to Christ as a young girl. From her early twenties, she suffered and became completely bedridden for the remainder of her life. Each morning she would have spells of rigidity and could not move or be moved until a priest came and blessed her. She had visions and conversations regularly with Jesus. She is not yet a saint, but the case for her canonization has been opened. My friend said that she was not feeling at all very Christmassy, but her visit with the gentleman completely changed her spirit.
I Found God today in a faithful man who has a profound way of sharing that faith.
