I regularly listen to prayers and podcasts on the Hallow app. Today a new series started about the lives of different saints. The one they started with was St. Sebastian who is the patron saint of athletes. The story is being read by John Mazzulla who is the head coach of the Boston Celtics. Only part of his life story was told today along with a scripture reading:
1 Corinthians 9:24-27 “Do you not know that the runners in the stadium all run in the race, but only one wins the prize? Run so as to win. Every athlete exercises discipline in every way. They do it to win a perishable crown, but we an imperishable one. Thus I do not run aimlessly; I do not fight as if I were shadowboxing. No, I drive my body and train it, for fear that, after having preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.”
The saint, the head coach, this scripture at the same time as the Olympic games I thought was all so appropriate.
I Found God today in His timely connection with athletes.
