Scouting Lessons Learned

I heard a story on the news today of 3 boy scouts who were hiking in the woods with their leader and wanted to explore a cave. Unknown to them, there was a bear in the cave and when the leader went in, it attacked him. The 3 boy scouts called 911 to get help. They even thought of making a signal fire to help the rescuers find them. In the end, they were all rescued and the leader managed to escape with non life-threatening injuries. When I told my dad about the incident, he told me how the things learned in scouts stick with you. He recalled a story when he was a boy and jumped over a snow bank. He landed wrong and fell and broke his leg. He knew it was broken by the way it felt. A man came to help him and he told the man that he was pretty sure his leg was broken and that he needed to hold it straight to keep it in place. My dad held the leg as he was taken to the hospital. The doctors put a cast on the leg and there were no other complications. He remembered exactly what he should do because he learned it in scouts.

I Found God today in important life lessons learned and taught in scouting.
