Today as I was running errands, I found I had some extra time. Since it was Ascension Thursday, I decided to go to Mass. Even better, I arrived early so I could go to Confession and there was no one else in line. I waited a long time, until it was just about time for Mass to begin. As I stood up, the person came out of the Confessional. It was a friend I hadn’t seen in years. We both just looked at each other, stunned for a couple of seconds, before we hugged hello. Then the priest came out and wondered if I was going in. I did go in and asked if he had enough time. He looked at his watch and realized he actually didn’t. He asked a couple of questions, had me repeat a prayer after him, and said the absolution prayer. It was the shortest, easiest Confession I had ever experienced. Then I sat with my friend for Mass. He sang with his boisterous voice and I remembered singing in the church choir with him almost 40 years ago. After Mass, we reminisced, laughed, made sure we had contact info, and promised to get together. It was a wonderful, unexpected, blessed hour in my day.
I Found God today in a long lost friend.
