Joyful Ash Wednesday

Most mornings I am able to take time to listen to a couple podcasts on the Hallow app and get my mind set towards God as I prepare for the day. I did the same this morning and got a couple perspectives on Ash Wednesday and Lent. A friend gave me a meditation book for each day of Lent, so I added that into my regimen. In the afternoon I went to church at the Newman Center to hear my friend who is the chaplain. Of all the thoughts, reflections, and perspectives that I read and listened to today, his words in the homily are what stood out for me. He had such a joyful presence and had much that he wanted to share. His enthusiasm was genuine, which made it very easy to listen to him. He said that if we wanted this year to be our best Easter, then we need to make this out best Lent. Our sacrifices during this time should be challenging. At the same time, if we fail in keeping the commitments we make, all is not lost. We have still learned much about ourselves and we can begin again. Many college students were there and many adults from the greater community. The young woman in front of me would nod her head in agreement every now and again. I enjoyed the Mass, my friend’s words of encouragement, and the presence of the faithful young people.

I Found God today celebrating Ash Wednesday.
