Tonight I had the privilege of sharing dinner with the group at the Newman Center. On Thursday evenings after Mass, a different group of people provide meals for the students to treat them to home cooked food. This was the 2nd event that was held since school started. There were about 30 young people in attendance and some adults who helped set up and clean up. A handful of the young people are leaders. They help new people feel welcomed and get them involved. I noticed how they proudly took ownership of the place and intuitively spoke to those who seemed unsure. They reminded me of the youth leaders in the church I used to work for, but on the next level up – if that makes sense. I enjoyed seeing them interact with one another and care for one another. They gave me a new found hope for the future.
