I really had a hankering for shepherds pie for St. Patrick’s Day and wanted to make some Irish soda bread to go with it. That makes so much food and I thought it would be fun to share it. I invited my sons and their families over. Most of them had other plans. So my daughter in law and her mom came over. We enjoyed the food and the conversation and they went home with leftovers. My daughter in law is starting to get a little belly now as the little life grows inside of her. She talked about how their dog – who used to be my son’s dog – is by her side every minute of the day now. Perhaps she is being a protective mother too. I haven’t had guests over to the house for a meal in quite some time, and I was grateful for the company. I remembered how I used to make every holiday special with my parents, mostly to have a reason to celebrate. Perhaps I could start doing that even just a little more.
