Today I spent time with one of my second cousins and family who I reconnected with last year. He spent quite a bit of time with my dad working on the cabin back in the day. We swapped more stories of the place and people who he met up there. When we were together last year, I brought some of my dad’s photos and shared them. My heart swelled when I saw the framed photo hanging on their wall. I had talked about all the things in my parents’ house that I was still trying to find homes for. He expressed interest in some, so after discussing with my siblings, I delivered some items to him this time around – including the old train set. He had already started setting up an electric train track in his basement and was looking forward to adding the pieces I brought and enjoying it with his grandchildren. I was happy to know it will be well used. In return, he did some computer work that was super helpful to me. His wife has the same name as my mom. Last year it felt strange to use it, this year I enjoyed saying it. They moved to a new house and were experiencing Spring there for the first time. We toured the large yard and tried to identify the different plants. We walked on some very well kept trails in the neighborhood that went through the prairies strewn with greenery and wildflowers. She is such a peaceful faithful and encouraging soul. I also got to visit with 2 of their daughters who are also very loving and generous. There were 2 more of my dad’s photos framed and on the walls. I felt so much joy and gratitude to spend time with them all again.
