I was happy to be able to attend Mass today and bring home Holy Communion for my mom. The priest had much valid, sound advice to help us live in peace. He focused on the reading from Phillipians . The first 2 sentences are, “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” I believe that is what the vast majority of people are actually looking for – peace. The priest said there were 3 ways to help obtain God’s peace. 1. Look up. Don’t allow the phones, TV’s etc. to dictate what you put into your mind and heart. Much of our anger and anxiety is rooted in the endless news articles and disturbing images that we subject ourselves to. We humans are the only creatures who have the capability of seeing the beauty of the world around us and ponder the vastness of creation. 2. Read. Specifically read books that help you get closer to God. He recommended “The Imitation of Christ” as one and stories of the saints. 3. Pray. There are hundreds of ways to pray. Instead of wasting time scrolling, make use of your time talking with and listening to God. As the scripture says, if we engage in all things lovely and gracious, the God of Peace will come to us. I cwerainly feel some these struggles and appreciated the encouragement. At the end of Mass, the priest said to enjoy the beautiful day and to eat some ice cream. So we did.
I Found God today in sound words of advice.
