This afternoon I was able to talk with my neighbor to find out how his wife was doing. She has been in the hospital, having had surgery over a week ago. While she is getting better in one way, she is still struggling in others. He doesn’t yet know when she may be able to come home. We talked about hardships and why God allows them to happen. I shared that one of my go-to scriptures was the book of Job.  Job was a man who went through incredible suffering. During his trials, he lamented and questioned, but he refused to give up his faith. Near the end of the story, Job had a conversation with God and asked Him why he put him through so much pain and turmoil. God’s answer was to explain to Job that He has the power to do all things, which humbled Job. So basically, God’s ways, plans, and actions are far beyond what we can fathom. God never did answer “why?”  Challenging, but comforting at the same time if we trust that God is good, that He created and loves us, and that His plan is bigger than our current circumstances. My friend and his wife both have an amazing faith and have probably hundreds of people praying for them. Even though they are struggling now, I know their situation will lead to them sharing that faith with those around them.
