Lemon Bars

The other day my mom went through her old recipe box. I suggested she find one that we could make. She chose lemon bars so I got all the ingredients. We made them this evening. It has been a while since we baked together, and my mom said she doesn’t even know the last time she had made them. The recipe was interesting, as it was written like a conversation instead of step by step directions. I was glad we read the whole thing before we started working so we were prepared. It was a pretty basic recipe, though, and I really enjoyed baking with my mom. We look forward to tasting them tomorrow.

I Found God today baking with my mom.

What’s Around the Bend

This morning as I was driving to pick up groceries, I came to the familiar blind corner. I have seen people fly around the corner without realizing there is a traffic light up ahead. As I cautiously entered the bend, the Christian music station that I was listening to played, “Forever On Your Side”, by Needtobreath. At that exact time the words, “Oh, I don’t know, What’s around the bend” I chuckled. It was timely to say the least. I thought about how true it is that I have no idea what is around the bend. I can’t even pretend to know what the next moment will bring. Then I got a little teary eyed as the phrase finished and I heard God speak to me, “My love, it knows no end…”

I Found God today in a timely message.

Visiting Nature

Today we decided to go out and enjoy the gorgeous day. We headed to a nature center I had visited last year. We started inside the building that was full of things to see, touch and hear. The tactile exhibits were fun and engaging. From there we followed a short paved trail with signs identifying plants, birds, and animals. Then we sat on a bench and ate our lunch. A squirrel came by and gathered some seeds from under the bird feeder while he waited for us to finish eating. We laughed as he became quite brazen, coming closer and flicking his tail as he seemed to lose patience with us. As we headed back to the car, we appreciated the perfect weather and joyful time.

I Found God today enjoying nature.

Watching Tess

My brother put his dog in doggie daycare today as he came for a visit. There was a camera in the area so you could log in and see what was going on. We checked in on her often and watched her play with the other dogs. Later, she was so tired she plopped down and napped. It was fun to see her having fun.

I Found God today having fun watching dog antics.

Hoping to See

My mom has been struggling to read her piano music for a while now. She got new glasses a couple years ago, but the prescription was not correct. We were able to visit the optometrist today who was super nice and got her set up for new glasses. We’re hoping she will be able to see better in the near future.

I Found God today as we were able to get new glasses started for my mom.

Number 6:24-26

Tonight was my last Bible class of the year. The instructor’s final prayer was Numbers 6:24-26, “The LORD bless you and keep you! The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!” These were the words from the song we sang yesterday with my mom. It brought tears to my eyes.

I Found God today in His blessing every day.

Great Family Get Together

I was happy to get to church again this morning and bring Communion home for my parents. After our little service, my mom hopped on her piano to play, “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”, which was in her mind. Then we had a great family get together including my two sons, two sisters, and one brother with his dog. I told everyone about the song, so my sister, brother and I worked it up real quick and sang our rendition with my dad joining in and my mom accompanying. It really was beautiful. We talked about my son’s potential move, did the token photo shoot, and had lots of laughs. Thinking that this could be a more regular occurrence was amazing.

I Found God today in a great family get together.

Exciting Possibility

My son from the east coast flew out for a long weekend and came for a visit today. It was wonderful to see him in person and give him a big real hug. While he’s here, he will be looking for homes and meeting with a potential employer. He and his family are hoping to move out here this summer. It is an exciting possibility for sure.

I Found God today seeing my son and hearing his plans.

Anonymous Encouragement

This morning when I woke up, I saw a text from an unknown number. It was simply an encouraging note from a person who reads this blog. That was a fantastic way to begin this day and I am very grateful.

I Found God today in unexpected encouragement.

Surrender Novena

It has been a challenging couple of days. The surrender novena was recommended to me by a friend a couple weeks ago. It is beautiful and I have been praying it nightly before I go to bed. Each prayer concludes with, “O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything!” (10 times) But, I must admit there have been times when I have become quite angry with God because it doesn’t look to me like he is taking care of everything. I spoke with a friend today who also is my spiritual guide. She reminded me that God IS caring for me and walking this path with me and my family, even though it may not look or feel the way I want. That’s the trust part – right? That God’s most loving plans are greater than mine, although I don’t immediately see or understand them.

I Found God today reminded that He is always with me.
