Shiatsu Massager

My sister came over today and we celebrated her birthday. She brought over a super cool massager that she splurged on. I have a subscription to receive a massage once a month, but I haven’t been in over a year due to COVID-19. So, my sister brought over her hand held device for me to try. It was a little awkward at first, trying to get it in the right position. It was a shiatsu massager, so it had a pretty intense movement. But once I got the hang of how to hold the arm bands and guide the rotating knuckles into the right places, it felt amazing. It was like a mini get away. We were celebrating my sister’s birthday, but I felt like I received an awesome gift.

I Found God today in a wonderful massage.

Untimely, Yet Peaceful

Today was haircut day. We have waited 3 months since our last cut, so we didn’t have to be in contact with too many people during the holiday season. My son took my dad to get his haircut while my mom and I went to our appointment. The last time I spoke to the beautician, her sister had the COVID-19 virus, but they were all very happy that no one else in the family had contracted it – including her grandmother and grandfather. Since then, she said she spends her time focusing on family and God. She told me that the family planned on getting all together at their family cabin during the holidays. Everyone had arrived except her grandfather. The 70 year old man was excited for his usual hunting trip and told the family he would meet up with them after he got his buck. While they were all together waiting for him to come, they received a phone call from one of the hunting companions with some sad news. The grandfather did indeed get his buck. He contacted the other man and told him where he was and that he was going down the hill to tag it. When the man arrived, he found the grandfather lying next to the buck. Evidently he had a massive heart attack and passed away right there. My friend said his eyes were closed as if he had laid down to rest a few minutes next to his prize. It was quite a shock and a lot for the family to sort out. But, in reflecting on her grandfather’s passing, she said he was doing what he loved and seemed to have a very peaceful death. It was a very moving story, and I felt blessed that she shared it all with us.

I Found God today in a moving story of an untimely, yet peaceful death.

Hearing His View

I asked my dad tonight where he found God. He said he started reading the book, “I Heard God Laugh”, by Matthew Kelly. He said he had not yet figured out what God was laughing at, but he really enjoyed what he read.

I Found God today hearing how my dad found Him.

Wind Warrior

It was pretty windy outside today as the weather is changing. My parents and I did make it out for short walk. It was nice to feel the sun and warmish air. I figured it was good to awaken our senses. I don’t particularly like wind and remembered a time when I was a child and refused to walk to school as it was so windy. That was likely due to the fact that people kept telling me I was so tiny I was going to blow away. I also managed to get out and run a few errands today. In a parking lot, I saw a young girl holding her mom’s hand as they walked to the store. Her other arm was outstretched and her head was back as she seemed to be completely enjoying the wind in her hair. It made me laugh and appreciate the differences in our humanity.

I Found God today in a little girl’s enjoyment of the wind.

COVID Crazy

Today my sister shared a funny story with me that was in the newspaper. A woman who was normally mild-mannered found herself to be a germophobic lunatic. She described her experience needing to purchase a vehicle in the middle of a pandemic. It was hysterical. It was likely more hilarious because I could so identify with her efforts in trying to sanitize, disinfect, and keep a safe distance from others. I was glad I wasn’t the only who felt this way.

I Found God in a funny story I could relate to.

Run and Hug

When I went for a walk today, I saw a mom, dad, and little boy walking in the complex. An older woman with a little girl came around the bend in front of them. One of the children yelled, “I see you!” and they started running towards one another. When they met, there were hugs all around. It was simply a joyful scene that I feel I used to take for granted.

I Found God today seeing the joy of children hugging.

Mercy and Hope

I saw a quote today on social media that touched my heart. The problem is, I can’t remember the whole thing and haven’t been able to find it again. However, the part that I do remember has popped in my head over and over today – show mercy today and have hope in tomorrow. I guess that is exactly what I needed.

I Found God today in another reminder of mercy and hope.

Memory and Reminder

A friend sent me a message today of a plaque he saw at the store. It said, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. ” Proverbs 3:5-6. It not only brought back wonderful memories of youth group, but was also a much needed reminder for the day. I was very grateful that he thought of me and touched base.

I Found God today in a memory and reminder.

Reached a Milestone

A couple of days ago, my good friend turned 60 years old. Instead of being upset about it, she was excited that she made it to the milestone. We got together today. The weather was favorable, so we went to the park, took a nice walk, and sat in the sun for a while. It was great to be together, catch up, and laugh as we always do.

I Found God today being with a good friend.

Outside Communicating

There was a lot of outside communication going on here today. My mom had her online exercise class this morning. Part of the class was working on cognition. Today this was done through artwork. One of the leaders gave the group step by step instructions on what shape to draw where on a piece of paper. At then end, it was supposed to be a picture, such as a fish or a cat. It really got them thinking and laughing. The class always finishes with social time to touch base with everyone. Later in the morning, we talked to my brother on Facetime. In the afternoon, my dad and I went for a walk and chatted with people along the way. In the evening, my son called for his weekly chat. Then I talked to a friend on the phone for a while – actually talked – not texted. My dad decided since he talked to one son, he would call the other as well. It was uplifting to have real conversations with real people.

I Found God today having lots of outside communication.
