Watching Over Us

Today is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I have a prayer app on my phone called, Hallow. Today started a 33 day devotion to Jesus through Mary that will finish with a consecration to Mary. Basically, a person entrusts themselves to the protection, guidance, and intercession of Our Blessed Mother. In the introduction today, the leader of the prayers, Sr. Miriam from the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, said that if Mary was given to watch over Jesus, she surely can take care of us. And that motherly care is something we never outgrow. I’m looking forward to this devotion.

I Found God today planning on completing a 33 day devotion.

Peanut Butter Pie

My son was out and about today and asked if he could stop by. So, he and his girlfriend came over when we got back from church. He returned a container of mine. And like any good friend, he didn’t return it empty. They had made peanut butter cup pie and shared some with us. He watches his food intake very closely and told me of all the substitutions they made to bring down the fat content. The pie tasted amazing. I would never have known that there were any alterations. He has turned into quite a good cook. It’s nice to see him enjoy it with his girlfriend – and to partake in the results.

I Found God today in my son’s joy and a delicious treat.

Computer Fixer

My mom’s friend got a new computer a while ago and had not been able to figure out where all her files were, or how to get them transferred from the old computer. Today my brother went to her house and got it all fixed up for her. She found some files that she thought were lost forever and was so happy. I thought it was very kind of my brother to spend some of his time with her so she could continue to work on the things she enjoyed.

I Found God today in my generous brother.

Hug With Prayers

After thinking about far away friends, I had conversations with a few today. It was so nice to catch up. However, even when I don’t talk with people for a long time for whatever reason, I still think about and pray for them. I saw a post from a friend that said, “When my arms can’t reach people close to my heart, I always hug them with my prayers.” That’s exactly how I feel.

I Found God today connecting with far away friends.

Returning To Support

I talked with a friend today. We both moved away within about a year of each other. She moved to a place with family and long time friends. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out as well as she had hoped. She told me that she recently moved back. She explained about the area she was living in now, the people she had re-connected with, and the church she went to. I could envision it all as if I were there and missed the place and the people. She sounded more positive than I had heard her in a very long time. I was glad she felt more encouraged and was grateful for the wonderful people that are helping her.

I Found God today hearing from an encouraged friend.

All The T’s

My mom had an appointment with another new PCP today. Her nurse had the same name as my sister. When I told her my name, she said she had a sister with the same name. She also had a brother with the same name as one of my brothers. Turns out she was one of 4 children in her family who all started with T. I am one of 5 who all start with T. Only 1 of her siblings was different from mine. That was pretty funny.

As a bonus, her new PCP was a woman who cared for her grandparents when she was younger. She had also started an at home assisted living organization so elderly could stay home longer. She was empathetic and really wanted to get to know my mom. We felt comfortable with her, although my mom was exhausted after the visit.

I Found God today in a funny coincidence and a caring doctor.

Passing Through

I heard a story today that I loved. A young woman was in the airport with some friends having dinner before their flight. The gentleman who waited on them said he had been working there for 11 years. He loved his job now, but that wasn’t always the case. One day, the man realized that he felt unfulfilled in his job because he felt he was having meaningless conversations with people he would never see again. He decided to change that. From then on, he would get to know those that he waited on. The young woman said that she and her friends had real, somewhat deep discussions with the waiter and that she will never forget him. I think that is what we need so much in our world is to have meaningful conversations and relationships with one another. In the waiter’s circumstance, people were literally passing through. In our lives, we will experience all types of coming and goings in our relationships, but really we are all “just passing through”. We can do our best to realize the value of each person who enters our lives.

I Found God today reminded of the importance of real, meaningful relationships.

Airport Blessings

I talked with a far away friend today who traveled over the weekend. She was a little nervous after not flying for over 27 years. She told me how she was struggling to figure out how to get from the airport to the hotel. She prayed right then and there and God helped her through that and each stressful situation she encountered. I love how He cares for us even in the seemingly little things when we call out and rely on Him.

I Found God today in His care in even seemingly little situations.

Spectacular Sunset

Last night I saw the most amazing sunset. The rain directly in front of the mountains was directly lit by the orange glow of the sun that was low in the sky. There were assorted shapes and types of storm clouds with pieces of blue dotted in amongst them. One particularly fluffy cloud had pink “bumps” and was attached to a small piece of a rainbow. As much as I look at the sky and as many times as I have observed the sun set behind the mountains, I have never seen anything like that. I am still in awe of how each 24 hour scene looks different from the previous. There is no other beauty than that which is nature. And this is my favorite way to experience God who paints the sky for everyone to enjoy.

Overwhelming Baptism

My mom and I attended Mass this afternoon. During the celebration, a teenaged girl was Baptized and Confirmed. The baptismal font is near the entrance to the church where my mom and I were seated, so we had a very good view. As the priest started saying the prayers, the young woman started crying. It was such an emotional moment for her, she cried through the whole thing. Then, she was choked up trying to respond to the priest when she was Confirmed. It was quite heartwarming to see how much receiving these Sacraments meant to the girl. I think I should be more grateful for the grace I have received through these Sacraments so many years ago. And I should be more willing to use that grace for others.
