“Crossing the Bridge”

I have recently been taking a new caregiver’s class. Tonight I watched a TedxTelAviv talk that was shared. It is an older video, but I thought the message was worth pondering. The psychologist Hedy Schleifer talked about relationships existing in the space between people – the sacred space. She discussed the importance of “crossing the bridge” to the other person to be able to help one another thrive. It was an interesting and different way of thinking about how we interact with one another. I enjoyed listening and contemplating her thoughts.

I Found God today in an interesting way of thinking about relationships.

Have To Let Go

I saw a quote today from Rachel Marie Martin that touched my heart, “Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought it would be like and learn to find joy in the story you are actually living,”

I Found God today in a reminder to live the here and now.

Greeted by the Dogs

When we look outside the window from the dining room, we have a view of a particular house. The people who live there own 3 dogs. The youngest one is barely a year old. It has been fun to see her grow from a puppy and it’s entertaining when the people have all the dogs outside. I have met the friendly dogs and people a couple of times. Today when I was out for a walk, I happened to be going right by the house when the young man arrived back home. When he got out of the car, all the dogs ran out to greet him with joy. Then they spotted me. I guess their joy was overflowing as they ran to greet me too. Knowing their temperament, I joined in the excitement and gave them some pets. I remembered when I was taking some Youth Ministry training, one of the presenters said that we should greet everyone who walks into the room like our dogs greet us – with complete unconditional love. That is certainly what these dogs were doing.

I Found God today in loving dogs greetings.

Stay With You Forever

My mom and dad watched part of the retreat again today. At one point the priest said in regards to God as someone, ” . . . to stay with you forever, loving you . . .” My dad turned to my mom and said, “See – that’s me for you.” I got teary-eyed.

I Found God today in my dad’s love for my mom.

Real Super Woman

I heard an incredible story on the news today about a young woman who saved a life, passed a nursing exam, and gave birth all in the same day. Evidently, she was in pre-mature early labor, but was cleared to leave so she could take the exam she had been studying for over 2 years. She stopped at Starbucks and while she was there, a woman had a heart attack. She saved the woman’s life, then was able to take her exam, after which she went into full labor and gave birth. After the baby was born, she found out that she did in fact pass her exam. One quote on social media said that she had done more in one day than the person had done in her whole life. She was definitely a super woman.

I Found God today in a story about an incredible young woman.

Promise of Peace

I read a meditation that showed up at exactly the right time. It quoted John 14:27 in this way, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” I left the book open on my desk so I can refer to it over and over again. I am always humbled at the way God speaks to me and loves me.

I Found God today in His promise of peace.

Praying Baby

A young woman I know gave birth to her first baby a few weeks ago. It was a time of joy and concern as she was ill which resulted in an earlier than anticipated birth. The baby was then hospitalized for a couple of days. Thankfully, things seem settled now. The new mom and her husband are faithful and prayerful. I received a birth announcement from them today. She said that their new little one hold his hands together as he is falling asleep so they take that opportunity to pray with him. How beautiful.

I Found God today in faithful parents praying with their baby.

Better by Night

I could see in my mother this morning that she wasn’t feeling well. She said she hurt all over, felt weak, and had an upset stomach. She has good days and bad days, but usually her bad days don’t include all of those symptoms. I was hoping it was nothing serious and after assessing the situation, decided to see how things went. She just took it easy during the day and rested and napped when she could. By the end of the day, she still wasn’t feeling great, but she was feeling better. She was able to walk around more easily and I could see in her face that she was doing a little better. That made us all very happy.

I Found God today as my mom felt better tonight than she did this morning.

My Blessed History

My dad has always been on the cutting edge of photography beginning when he was in high school. He also owned a movie camera at that time and started putting together movies as well. I remember watching some of them on an old reel to reel projector and portable screen. Many years ago, my brother took all those movies and converted them to DVD’s. Tonight we sat down and started watching them in chronological order. The earliest was in 1948 and starred one of my dad’s funny friend’s and my mother. She was 16 at the time and shared with me details of that day. We worked our way up through the birth of my older sister in 1960. My dad was in the military and my parents lived in Morocco for just over a year. It was very interesting to see how life was for them all at that time. No one had running water in the home, it had to be “fetched”. Most people travelled by donkeys. The women tied their children on their back to carry them around. Once back in the U.S. the focus was on the family. It was such a joy to see family members who have been gone for some time now, even though we got teary eyed when we saw my parents’ parents. Seeing my parents vibrant in their 20’s and starting to raise a family reminded me of the amazing history they have together, the history that I am blessed to be a part of.

I Found God today being reminded of the beautiful history that I am a part of.

Reaching an Octave

My mom sat down to play the piano today, laid her fingers on the keyboard and exclaimed, “I can reach an octave!” We were just talking yesterday about how I am unable to do so and how my mother hasn’t been able to for years. Suddenly, for whatever reason, she was able to today. Her practice session was amazing and full of life. It was a little victory that we all celebrated.

I Found God today in the little victory of my mom being able to reach an octave.
